Conquer the cold winter days with Far InfraRed (FIR)
10 April 2025
Cold and inclement weather can make it challenging to find the motivation to get on the bike. You want to ride, but the conditions just aren’t in your favor. As a Dutch company, we understand better than anyone how to stay comfortable on the bike in all weather conditions. Our clothing line includes a range of smart, practical products designed to keep you warm on your rides. Utilizing Far InfraRed technology, we’ve made these items highly insulating without the need for bulky layers. With this innovative technology, you’ll be able to conquer the elements and keep riding!
What is Far InfraRed Technology?
Far InfraRed, also called 'FIR' is a technology to insulate the body. Where normal clothing works through the insulation with little air bubbles, works FIR through a whole other concept. The body emits infrared light that we cannot see with the naked eye. This infrared light contains energy in the form of heat and can pass normal insulation very easily. Far InfraRed technology uses this emitted energy by bouncing it back to the body.
All good and well, but how is this produced within the fabric? The innovative fabric consists of three layers and contains ceramic particles that act as a shield so that the infrared energy can't escape. With this, the body is protected against the cold in two ways: the normal insulating function of the fabric and the special Far InfraRed technology that keeps your body warm in an invisible way without compromising weight, comfort, and looks. The FIR technology is extremely sustainable since the ceramic particles are processed in the fabric. It makes the FIR technology sustainable and does not deteriorate over time. Far InfraRed technology works for as long as the product lasts.
The advantage on the bike
What does Far InfraRed technology really offer in terms of insulation? This technology keeps your body temperature approximately one degree Celsius warmer than comparable products without it. While one degree might not sound like much, it makes a significant difference on the bike. This small increase enhances blood flow, which helps your entire body stay warmer more easily. It creates a snowball effect that ultimately maintains your body temperature at a higher, more comfortable level.
Rain and FIR
Traditional insulation in clothing loses its effectiveness as soon as the fabric gets wet because the tiny air pockets within the material collapse, significantly reducing its insulating properties. In contrast, Far InfraRed technology operates on a completely different principle, which is not affected by moisture. This means that products incorporating Far InfraRed technology retain their insulating effect, even in rainy conditions.
Our clothing
Now that you understand more about Far InfraRed (FIR) technology, you’ll see why it’s most effective when worn close to or in direct contact with the skin. That’s why we’ve integrated FIR technology primarily into products that are worn directly against the skin or in areas most exposed to the cold. Examples include our FIRFeet socks, FIRHat for under your helmet, and FIRNeck to keep your neck warm. For a complete list of our FIR products, see the list below.
Don't forget about this!
An additional benefit of Far InfraRed (FIR) technology is that products treated with this technology are quick-drying. Cold days can often be wet and rainy, and wet clothing quickly loses its comfort and insulation. Thanks to the quick-drying properties of FIR-treated fabrics, they regain their insulating power much faster, allowing them to perform at their best and keep you comfortable throughout your ride.
The satisfaction after the ride
We know it can be tough to get on the bike when it’s cold, wet, and dark outside, but with our Far InfraRed products, we aim to make it as comfortable as possible. And if you’re hesitating to face the cold today, just think about the satisfaction you'll feel afterwards, the unbeatable sense of accomplishment after a great ride. That feeling alone is enough to get you on the bike. Enjoy the ride!
