Hey, I'm Seppe, a 34-year-old dad to Vik and Laurien. I've won the Hel van Kasterlee 10 times and been a duathlon world champion twice. I work as a rep for Orbea, which allows me to mix my work with my love for cycling. I compete in triathlons, duathlons, cycling races, gravel races, beach races, trail running - you name it, I've probably done it on two wheels or on foot!
What are your biggest achievements on the bike?
I once Everest-ed the Sigarenberg in our village. I had to climb it 239 times, covering about 393km in 16 hours on my bike.
Last year, I won the Hel van Kasterlee for the 10th time in a row. It's known as one of the toughest winter duathlons in the world: 15km run, 125km mountain bike, and 30km run. The toughest part is usually the weather in mid-December. In the last edition, freezing temperatures made it an exceptional race.
I'm a two-time world champion in long-distance duathlon, a title I won in 2016 and 2021 in Zofingen, Switzerland.
What is your biggest goal this year?
World championship gravel in Leuven
Unbound gravel
Hel van Kasterlee
What is your favorite place or route to ride?
I really love the Ardennes for some elevation gain in a green environment. When I go abroad, I like to visit Lanzarote - not as green but always beautiful weather, windy, and great asphalt. I live in Herent where a dedicated mountain bike route is named after me. It's a solid 58 kilometers, mostly within the same municipality.
Who is your favorite cycling buddy?
Ruben Cumps, my brother-in-law, we're in the same cycling team and do a lot of beach races together.
